About The Garage Guidance

It started with a broken garage door and a Saturday I’ll never get back.

February 2020, and my garage door opener decided to die on a Friday night — right before a weekend I’d planned around finally clearing out the space. I spent the next two days doing what most people do: falling down a rabbit hole of forums, half-finished YouTube videos, and articles that told me everything except the one thing I actually needed to know. Everyone assumed I already understood the part that was confusing me most.

By Sunday, I’d fixed it. But what stuck with me wasn’t the fix — it was how much harder that process had to be than it should’ve been.

That’s the whole reason TheGarageGuidance exists.

I’m Mike Klimek, and I’ve spent a lot of weekends doing exactly what you’re probably doing right now — standing in a garage with a problem, a phone in one hand, and way too many browser tabs open. Somewhere in that process, I started writing down what actually worked. Not the theory. Not the 15-paragraph history of garage door technology. Just: here’s the problem, here’s why it’s happening, here’s what to do about it.

TheGarageGuidance grew out of that habit. Every article here comes from the same place that Saturday did — a real problem that needed a real, specific answer, written the way I wish someone had written it for me.

What you’ll find here:
Practical guides for garage door repair, electrical work, ventilation, and bigger renovation projects — organized so you can find your exact problem instead of scrolling through content that doesn’t apply to you.

What you won’t find:
Filler. If an article doesn’t earn its place, it doesn’t go up.

Some of the guides link to tools, parts, or products I’ve used myself or think are worth your time — a few of those are affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission if you buy through them, at no extra cost to you. It never changes what I recommend.

And for anything involving electrical panels, gas lines, or load-bearing changes — I’ll always tell you when it’s time to stop reading and call a licensed professional instead. No article is worth a shortcut on something that could hurt you.

If you’re here because something in your garage isn’t working the way it should, I’ve probably been exactly where you are. Let’s get it fixed.

Some links on this site earn us a small commission at no extra cost to you. It never changes what we recommend — and for anything involving electrical panels or structural changes, we'll always tell you when it's time to call a licensed professional instead.
